แอกเนส ชาน เรียนจบปริญญาเอกจากคณะศึกษาศาสตร์ ที่มหาวิทยาลัยสแตนฟอร์ดในสหรัฐอเมริกา เป็นทั้งนักร้องเพลงป๊อป นักเขียน และทูตสันถวไมตรีขององค์การยูนิเซฟประจำประเทศญี่ปุ่น ได้บันทึกเรื่องราวที่เธอประสบพบเจอกับเด็กๆ เหล่านี้มาลงในหนังสือเล่มนี้ เพื่อถ่ายทอดความเจ็บปวดของเด็กๆ ให้คนทั้งโลกได้รับรู้
